Listening is the final part of the test, and every clip plays only once. Here is the format, the scoring, and where the easy points are.

How Listening is scored
Listening mixes partial-credit and correct-or-incorrect tasks. Negative marking applies to two of them: Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers and Highlight Incorrect Words (plus one per correct, minus one per incorrect, floored at zero). Write from Dictation has no negative marking, so a wrong word simply scores zero rather than costing you.
Listening has the heaviest cross-feed of any section. Summarize Spoken Text and Write from Dictation both score Listening and Writing, and Highlight Correct Summary and Highlight Incorrect Words both score Listening and Reading. So strong listening practice quietly builds your Writing and Reading scores too.

Note-take from the first second
Because audio plays once, use the short countdown before each clip to get ready, then capture keywords (who, what, numbers, names) in shorthand, not full sentences. There is no replay.
Write from Dictation is the highest-ROI task in the exam
There are 3 to 4 of them, and every correct word scores in both Listening and Writing. Drill it more than anything else.
Be selective on the two negative-marking tasks
On Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers and Highlight Incorrect Words, click an option or word only when you are sure, because over-clicking costs marks.
Do not freeze on a missed word
If you lose a word, let it go and lock onto the next idea. Chasing it loses the rest of the clip.
Common mistakes
- Waiting to fully understand before noting anything, then losing the one and only playback.
- Under-practising Write from Dictation despite its double-skill payoff.
- Over-selecting on Highlight Incorrect Words or Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers and triggering negative marking.
- Writing long sentences in notes instead of keywords.
- Spelling slips in the type-in and dictation tasks, where each wrong word scores zero.
- Not realising Listening tasks also feed the Reading and Writing scores.
