How to use PTE sample tests in your prep

Step 1 · Diagnose

Take one sample per section over a week. Note which section's score is lowest against your target. That's your priority skill.

Step 2 · Drill

On your weakest skill, take samples 2, 3 and 4 across two weeks. Focus your practice between them on the specific tasks you missed.

Step 3 · Confirm

7-10 days before your real exam, sit a full 2-hour mock to confirm your overall predicted score under real timing.

PTE sample test — frequently asked

A short focused test that covers only one section of the PTE (Speaking, Writing, Reading or Listening), instead of the full ~2-hour exam. Each of ours has 5-8 real-shape tasks in that skill, uses the same interface and scoring as a full mock, and takes around 40 minutes. It's the quickest honest way to see whether you're ready for a full mock or need to shore up one skill first.

Yes. The first sample test in every section is free and doesn't require signup. AI scoring, per-task breakdown and next-steps recommendations are included. Later sample tests in the same section unlock with a free account (which also saves your history so you can track trend).

A full PTE mock covers all four sections in one 2-hour sitting (roughly 60 tasks total) and predicts your overall PTE score. A sample test is one section only, ~40 minutes, ~5-8 tasks. Use a sample test to test-drive the format or to isolate a weak skill. Use a full mock to predict your real exam score.

20 in total — 5 per section across Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening. All are modelled on the current 2026 PTE Academic format (updated after Pearson's August 2025 changes) and use fresh questions each attempt.

Yes. Speaking and Writing responses are scored by our AI engine (the same one used in our full mocks), and Reading and Listening are marked against answer keys. You get a per-task breakdown showing where the points came from and where they leaked, not just an overall number.

Yes. Task types, timing per task, word counts and scoring traits mirror the current 2026 PTE Academic format. We update the content when Pearson changes the exam (most recently, the two new tasks added in August 2025 are covered in Speaking and Writing samples).

If you've never taken PTE, start with the Speaking sample — it's the section most retakers underestimate and the fastest way to feel whether the microphone-timing format suits you. If you've taken PTE before and know your weak skill, start there. If you want to preview the whole exam, take our free full mock instead.

The first sample test in every section is completely free and no signup is required for your first attempt. To save your score history, unlock the second and third sample tests per section, and get a personalised study plan by email, sign in with Google (one click) or an email verification code.
