Volcanic eruptions can dramatically alter the global climate for years afterwards. When a large volcano erupts, it ejects vast drop here of ash and sulphur gases high into the atmosphere. These particles reflect sunlight back into space, which can temporarily drop here surface temperatures across whole continents. Historical records show that such cooling sometimes ruined harvests and triggered drop here. Despite the damage, the ash that settles eventually enriches the soil and makes nearby farmland remarkably drop here.
