Wide pavements, sheltered crossings, and well-connected public squares encourage people to walk, meet, and spend time outdoors. Studies suggest that such neighbourhoods enjoy stronger local economies and a greater sense of community, as residents are more likely to support nearby shops and recognise their neighbours.
