Untimed practiceAstronomers using powerful telescopes have identified distant planets orbiting stars far beyond our solar system. By measuring the slight dimming of starlight as a planet passes in front of its star, scientists can estimate the planet's size and the length of its orbit. Some of these worlds lie within a region where liquid water, and perhaps life, might exist.
